I thought that today I would share a favorite childhood memory of mine. It was Wacky Wednesdays. The first Wednesday of the month! My father would take my sister and I to “dinner” and we ordered dessert before dinner! So where did we go? Friendly’s! For the reeses pieces sundae!
Besides the fact that my sister and I loved this concept I think it worked out really well for my father because we were too full for a real meal. I do remember sometimes we’d order something and it would come home with us in a box but other times we would just have a sundae and then a sandwich or cereal later on at home.

I love your blog – people love hearing others’ stories, and ‘Wacky Wednesdays’ is a wonderful story about a father who was obviously creative, and didn’t mind colouring outside the lines in order to create your most enduring memories! Thanks for sharing it with us. 🙂
Thank you, Maureenlee! So glad you like the blog! I hope you’ll come back again!
There was a time, as a single father, that I needed a way to get my 4 boys up and ready for school each day. They would tend to sleep till the last minute and rush out of the house. So, I’d prepare a breakfast ‘menu’ each morning, with bright crayon colors, that described which cereal choices were available, along with other ‘side dishes’ (toast, juice, fruit). When I woke them up, they got the menu and had to place their order. It helped to guarantee that they were properly fed to kick off the day…
That is a great idea! And I imagine that your kids loved it! How fun – something I imagine they’ll never forget! Thank you for taking the time to share that here!
Awesome story. Thank you for sharing. I remember whenever I was sick, my grandmother used to give me warm milk and honey before bed. A fond nurturing memory.
I’ve never had warm milk and honey! Perhaps I should try it sometime to see what it tastes like. Thank you for posting!
Gosh, I was just so lucky. I have so many amazing memories. I can remember my mom singing to me to get me up in the morning. As a teenager, I was quite annoyed. But looking back, it was sweet.
My parents were at EVERY SINGLE thing I ever did. They never missed a chorus concert, a show choir competition (yes, I did show choir and LOVED it!), a field hockey game, a cheering event. They missed nothing. I am so grateful for that. Many, Many, great memories!
You’ve got me thinking!hmmm. What else can I remember???
That’s great that you were so supported, Jessica! Glad I could get you thinking about nice memoried from the past!
That sounds like so much fun! I love dessert for dinner. In fact I love dessert for breakfast lunch dinner and any other reason I can find lol. What a great memory for you.
You are funny! Perhaps I should try dessert for breakfast one of these days! 😉 Thanks for coming by and commenting!
The most memorable childhood memories was when we play hide and seek (during a power failure and the only visible light you can see is that of the moon) under a clear and starry night. It was like we are in a fantasy world. 🙂
Hi Walter! Thanks for coming by and commenting! Power failures always created great memories didn’t they? Especially if you were with siblings or cousins as a child!
What a lovely memory. Maybe one day I’ll do that with my boys… order dessert first. I love your blog; I’ll add it to my favorites! – Michelle
Thank you, Michelle! I appreciate it! So glad you came by and took the time to comment too!
What a WONDERFUL memory! I want to make memories like that for my kids too! =) I don’t have any like that myself, but oh do I want to create those for my brood. How fun that you and your sister get to say “remember when we used to…”
Hi Mandy! Thanks for coming back again! I bet your kids are going to have a bunch of great memories like this! 🙂
