I’ve been meaning to write and explain my hiatus but I haven’t really found the right words. Hopefully I will do that very soon.

This morning I am writing with a request. Someone entirely dear to me is in need of prayers. Strength and prayers. So, I am asking everyone that reads this post to send up an extra prayer or positive thought. Think of others in your life that you know could use some extra courage and strength. Take a moment to breathe, reflect and strengthen these people as well. Even for yourself. We all need and deserve an extra lift, right? I know that I sure do.

Certain thoughts are prayers. There are moments when, whatever be the attitude of the body, the soul is on its knees. ~Victor Hugo

I’m going to keep this prayer simple for now. Here is hope, love, strength, and courage. You are beautiful. You are a blessing. You are not alone.

I know God won’t give me anything I can’t handle. I just wish that He didn’t trust me so much. ~Mother Theresa

God is with you. Do you see that one set of footprints? He is carrying you. Today and always.

I quoted Meg Ryan from one of her movies here at aplaceforthoughts.com once before. And I’m about to do it again.

The other day Kate & Leopold starring Meg Ryan and Hugh Jackman was on television and I caught about 20 minutes of it. I watched it once before a couple of years ago and while watching the other day it reminded me that there was a part of the movie that really moved me the first time I saw it. So I decided to look up quotes from the movie to see if I was able to remember what it was. It didn’t take long to find what I was looking for…
—-
Kate: …it’s a great thing to get what you want. It’s a really good thing unless what you thought you wanted wasn’t really what you wanted… because what you really wanted you couldn’t imagine or you didn’t think it was possible but what if someone came along who knew exactly what you wanted without asking they just knew… like they could hear your heart beating or listen to your thoughts and what if they were sure of themselves and they didn’t have to take a poll and they loved you…
—-

For me this was a get up and grab the kleenex kind of moment. The part that really struck me was …because what you really wanted you couldn’t imagine or you didn’t think it was possible…

Throughout life I have often allowed fear to control decisions that I’ve made. There have been times where what I’ve really wanted seemed so far out of reach or impossible. Or that even if it was possible that it would or could just easily slip away.

But you know what? It is possible.

And then there is this portion of the above quote:

…but what if someone came along who knew exactly what you wanted without asking they just knew… like they could hear your heart beating or listen to your thoughts and what if they were sure of themselves and they didn’t have to take a poll and they loved you…

Have you ever had this happen? It can be terrifying and completely lovely all at the same time. Some of us don’t get to experience this type of love, some of us do and it’s taken from us quickly, some of us have the luxury of living this type of love each and every day, some of us have a glimpse of it and the fear of the love leaving us or not being real controls how much we allow ourselves to let it into our lives.

But I’m going to say it again. It is possible. Have hope. Allow yourself the joy of being loved. Recognize that if this type of love is there that you are blessed. Not everyone experiences this. We only live once. Embrace it. It isn’t too late. It’s never too late. Believe.

I just thought I’d post something simple for tonight. Tomorrow is already Thanksgiving and I just can’t believe it. It seems as if it was just August.

During this time of thanks I thought it would be nice if we could all share something we are feeling grateful for. So whether you are reading this tonight, tomorrow or in two weeks feel free to share something that you are currently feeling gratitude towards.

At this moment I am grateful for the random hug my little guy gave me while we were reading books this afternoon. I am also thankful to know that those dear to me are safe and warm in their homes.

Wishing you and yours a Thanksgiving full of peace and hope.

Nothing is more honorable than a grateful heart. ~Seneca

The first day of September is already coming to a close. It seems this whole year is just flying by. When it comes to September I wish that life could just slow down. If only these 30 days could just last longer.

I love the close of summer and feeling the weather change as we approach fall. It has always been my favorite time of year. For many reasons. One is that it is finally cooler! I’m not a big fan of the 90 degree days especially with the humidity that accompanies them where I live. I love the colors of the fall, the crisp fresh air that we can breathe in and the anticipation of the upcoming holidays. It’s as if people are eager to be better versions of themselves and they actually are. I notice it most between Thanksgiving and Christmas but it usually lingers into January as well. If only that was how we operated throughout the entire year. Life would be more peaceful for sure.

Is there something specific that you tend to do more of during the holiday season? Perhaps it is an extra visit to a family member, a delivery to a favorite local charity or taking the extra two minutes to help someone carry their groceries. How about incorporating it into your September? Why not take this beautiful time of year and make it even better?

Sounds like it is time for me to unwind with a cup of tea and think of all that I look forward to this month as well as the ways I can bring more peace and hope into it.

This week I’ve struggled a bit with something that is on my mind. I realized it when for the third time in two days I found myself having an argument in my head with the person that I am upset with. It’s happened at random times. While doing dishes; while driving. I’m starting to feel like it’s almost to the point where it is too late to discuss it because I’m not sure that I can anymore without getting too upset. Of course I could always do so via email but that isn’t really the right way to handle this.

So I’m hoping I find some patience. Patience to find the right words and the strength to address this issue appropriately. Quickly and to the point without making it about more than it needs to be. I so hope I can.

While writing this I decided to look up some quotes on patience. I thought maybe they would inspire me. Help me to breathe and relax and think again about what is upsetting me. Below is a quote I came across that I really like.

Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.  ~John Quincy Adams

Do you have a favorite quote related to patience? How do you de-stress so that you can prepare yourself to deal with something difficult?

March 12th is a special day. It always has been – at least in my world. Today my angel celebrates a birthday. Don’t think by my wording that I think I know anything about the afterlife or angels;  I am just celebrating someone who I love. Someone who loved me and gave me my eyes, my passion, my personality, my life. Someone with strength and courage (can you send some of that down to me by the way?). I hope that my angel enjoyed her time here on this earth. I hope that she was happy in her last days. Heck, I hope she was happy most of the time.

I wonder if she knows how loved she was and still is. I wonder if she knows that I look just like her.

I wonder if she knows that a few years back someone came into my office looking for some information. She didn’t know my name yet and just kept staring at me. She finally said – “I’m so sorry. You just look like someone I went to school with. I used to sit behind her in class and play with her long brown hair – that was so long ago.” At the end of our meeting I gave her my business card and she said “is your father (enter name here)?” when I replied yes she looked stunned, I think stunned is the right word, and she said “I was talking about your mother”. What a small world. When she spoke I could feel love and kindness for my mother so I knew that they had an impact on each others lives. I later asked my grandmother about her and she said they were very close in school.

So, Mom, Happy Birthday – if you never got to hear me say anything to you, I’m sorry. But I hope you know I love you.

Be an angel to someone else whenever you can, as a way of thanking God for the help your angel has given you.  ~Quoted in The Angels’ Little Instruction Book by Eileen Elias Freeman, 1994

I’m starting my morning with a nice hot cup of tea – like I do most mornings. I must have it just a specific way. If I go anywhere overnight I’ll sometimes bring my tea bags with me because most other brands just don’t compare. I have an aunt that comes to visit often and she says that I make the perfect cup of tea. She teases that she wants to know my special ingredient. I always tell her that I won’t share. She’ll just have to come visit. Really though it’s just the brand of tea bag, in my opinion.

Isn’t it funny how we can find comfort in something as small as a cup of tea? Sometimes it gives me the time I need to reflect on a nice memory or think about hopes that I have. If that’s not comforting; I don’t know what is.

As a young girl there were times that I was at my grandmother’s house in the morning either on a school break or during the summer. We always had a cup of tea and a bagel together and shared so much on those mornings. When I was at home and it was a school day I’d make my cup of tea and call and talk to her on the phone for 10 minutes each morning. I think that is what started to make me love tea so much.

This morning my mug is an oversized one with a very pretty design. Inside it says live*love*laugh. I have a feeling that the person that gave me this knows just how much a nice soothing cup of tea can brighten my day.

Lately my mornings are spent enjoying this caffeine at home before my little one wakes up for a very busy morning. Not all that long ago I was enjoying my morning beverage at work. I’d bring my nice mugs from home. I’d get to work, turn on my computer, my radio, listen to voicemails and make my tea. Usually I was catching up on emails while having tea – a couple mornings a week my tea would come with me into meetings. Sometimes I already knew that there would be issues discussed that I wasn’t looking forward to but my tea was there. Something to hold on too. It was at times something that would give me just what I needed to not react to something that I didn’t agree with negatively; sometimes it gave me strength I needed to stand up for something I believed was important to my department.

Everywhere you go people seem to have something to drink with them. On television many shows have a café where everyone meets for coffee or tea. Actually lattes and macchiatos are more popular now. On Frasier I think it was Café Nervosa; Friends hung out at Central Perk – those are just two of many. How many movie scenes are in a coffee-house or diner? Too many to mention! There is a reason Barnes & Nobles and Borders opened with large cafés inside. It’s just what makes sense; it’s comforting.

What is something little that brings you great comfort? If you haven’t incorporated it into your day yet today – be sure to – you deserve it!
